Aneho Basketball Tournament 2009

We have concluded our first basketball camp and tournament in Aneho, Togo. We could not be more pleased with the turn out. There were about 25 participants in both the camp and the tournament. Most of the guys have never had any coaching whatsoever. They seemed to enjoy every minute of it.

Two weeks before the tournament, a few American volunteers painted the court and replaced the backboard. The courts are at a public school. The Togolese students told us the school was built in 1974. To the looks of it, the courts had not had a makeover since. Some of the students thanked us for fixing up the courts for them.

Two friends from college flew over to run the camp and tournament. One of the guys is an employee of Titus Sports Academy (www.titussports.com) in Jacksonville, FL. He trains college bound athletes. I want to say a special thanks to the many individuals and organizations in the US that helped with this tournament. Liberty University's basketball camp donated basketballs, a high school donated jerseys, and many individuals sacrificed to help send the two coaches. The two guys did a fabulous job.

This tournament was held about a half a mile from our home. This is the neighborhood we are looking to plant a church. We are looking to strengthen the relationships that were made during the tournament. The guys have been very open to the gospel.

As of right now, we are looking to run another basketball camp and tournament in July of 2010. I would love to have a few basketball coaches help us with this event next year. As for pictures, we have an album on my facebook.com account. (jj alderman)
