Fishing and Black Magic

As many of you know, Melissa and I live in a fishing community off the coast. The large majority of the population is in some way connected to both the fishing industry and black magic.

For the last few weeks, the fishermen have not been able to catch any fish. They have spent the entire night in a dug out canoe in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, only to come back empty handed. This caused the fishermen to get together to do some sacrifices to the gods. The witch doctor communicated to them that one of the fishermen had to give his life so that everyone else could catch fish again. Within the same week, an experienced fishermen drown. Immediately after the tragic event, all the fishermen up and down the coast near our home starting catching an abundance of fish.

My thoughts are not as much focused on the power that Satan has in the world, but more on the price that was paid. In both of our religions, someone had to die. In theirs, it was one of their own fishermen who paid the ultimate price so they could catch some more fish. In mine, my God sent His Son to die a horrible death so that I can live. So live I will do, to the best of my ability. The goal is to allow Him to define what a successful life looks like, all for His glory.
